January 15, 2022 - Decent enough, a fairly typical southern rhone blend (75gr,25sy) that is drinking nicely now. Quite a dark purple, nice perfume, good fruit levels, quite rich, a product of the vintage which I think gives modest wines good appeal. No complaints at all.

December 21, 2021 - Distinctive pomegranate and cherry fruit were supported with firm tannins to the point of astringency. There was some freshness, but lacked layers and depth. CHP 85 points

January 6, 2018 - Four Rhone Wines: Light purple color. Aromas of tart black currants, plums, cherries, along with lavender, violets, rich earth. Medium grip on the tannins, tart acidity, along with plums, roasted figs, black currant. Notes of sweet violets, espresso, pepper, clove, lavender. Structured well but lively and fresh, too. 75% Grenache, 25% Syrah.

December 28, 2017 - PnP. At this point, this wine either needs a year of cellar time, or a good 30 - 60 minute decant. A blend of 75% Grenache and 25% Syrah from a well respected Rhone producer. Listed in the Cotes du Rhone section of Balthazar's wine list, at $52, just a tad more than 2 times the NYC retail of $24.
Over the course of dinner, with air, the tannins softened somewhat, allowing the abundant dark red fruits, the earthy tones, the spice, and the nicely balancing acidity to make this wine a very reasonable match for the Onion Soup and the Duck Confit (served over a mix of red beets and figs). Cellar until next fall/winter, then enjoy for at least 3 years beyond.
