June 15, 2018 - Theme was Riesling, Germany or Alsace. We grouped by type, this was drunk along side a 2006 JJ Prum Kabinett. The Prum was fresher, better all around. This was darker in color, and a bit tart, no Riesling sweetness at all. Tasted older. Not unpleasant, and actually was a bit better, 89-90, the next day with grilled chicken. Our group doesn’t know a whole lot about Riesling, we read that a gold capsule (this had one, as opposed to my 1993 Habs-Barzen Auslese, which had a white capsule) meant a reserve equivalent, or a higher level wine in general. This has not aged as gracefully as the Auslese. I bought a selection of these 1990’s Habs-Barzen from Garagiste to attempt to see what older Riesling was about. Overall, good decision so far. Interesting.
