January 13, 2024 - This is a beautiful, well structured wine. Comes out of the bottle with a medium-dark crimson red. Initial nose is almost savory, with charcoal, tobacco, maybe even some roasted game. After about 30 minutes in the glass, some of the subtle dark berry fruit starts to make an appearance. But the wine never lets you forget it’s a Cabernet Franc (85%) and retainers a wonderful earthy typicity throughout. Firm, chewy tannins provide an excellent backbone and structure. Loved it to the last sip, and is the most original American wine I’ve had in a year. Superb, interesting wine making at Sanguis. Drank undecanted.

December 5, 2022 - Decanted 30 minutes before service - perhaps a couple of hours might have been preferable, but not by much, as the tannins were present but relatively subdued. In the glass, dark, inky ruby red. On the nose, plums, currants, and blueberries, with a muted hint of ground pepper. On the palate, medium-to-full bodied, with more berries, a touch of bell pepper, and a bit of dried herbs to round things out as the tannins finally exercised some grip on the finish.

February 27, 2020 - Nice wine that still need an hour decant before it starts to shine. Chocolate, cassis, black cherry, menthol

December 7, 2019 - Probably popped the cork too early on this one. Voluptuous and wonderfully balanced, but the tannins still grip the palate — even with a double decant and an hour in the decanter. Black pitted fruits on the palate. A still-closed bouquet. But a lusty licorice and tar-dabbed finish, even though the tannins come into play here. Delicious, though. Drink 2021-2030. Wow.

December 2, 2019 - Pop and pour. Fun, fruity Sanguis with tropical-fruit notes, bright acid, sweet dark fruit on the finish. Really singing right now with no rough edges.
