Community Tasting Notes 5

October 31, 2010 - Excellent avec Risotto aux pétoncles et crevettes

September 6, 2010 - Grapefruit and guava come through on the nose. The best way to describe this wine is like a viper: it hits you quickly up front with citrus, minerality, and just a bit of smoke, then is gone just as quick with a short midpalate/finish. Good acidity. Being from the 2007 vintage, this probably would have been at its best 1-2 years ago, but is still drinkable now.

May 7, 2008 - No formal notes, consumed on a rather warm day. The wine reminded me of a Savennieres with its fullness and it did hold up well to the sauteed pork chops. Surprisingly, when I tasted the wine after biting into fresh bread roasted with goat cheese and fresh thyme, I experienced a taste reminiscent of ginger ale.

November 11, 2006 - $19.99 retail, before discount. Third time I've had this. Ripe lemon fruit, along with faint anise and a light floral note on the nose. Clean, fresh, pure and balanced on the palate. Delicious Sauvignon, which IMO, is a step up from most intro-level $16-$22 Sancerres, and, thus, represents a solid value.

September 29, 2006 - Bright lemon and mineral elements onthe nose. On the palate, terrific freshness and energy. Focused, chiseled citrus fruit and nice ripeness balanced out by perfect acidity. Really impressive. Tasted side by side with the 2005 Sancerre "Les Monts Damnes" from Thomas-Labaille, Pelle's Menetou Morogues was the clear winner. The Morogues bottling seems to have more going on than the also enjoyable regular Menetou-Salon bottling from Pelle in 2005.
