November 1, 2023 - Grand Jury du Vin - Republic of Georgia; 11/1/2023-11/9/2023 (Republic of Georgia then stopover in Paris and Dijon): In double magnum format. Laurent V. opened this in honor of George, our host, as it is his birth year. This came from an impeccable cellar, the fill is still into the middle neck. Expressive nose displaying generous super sweet red fruit, strawberry and a hint of cherry, truffle, grilled cep, light caramel, ash, sweet spices and mineral. Excellent concentration, generous mature sweet red fruit, silky and fluid, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a seamless long sweet red fruit driven finish with a hint of ash at the end. This is a great example of perfectly cellared large format Bordeaux.

September 18, 2023 - Gives a nice woody, plum and nougat note on the nose, and has bits of cedar, tobacco and fall leaf notes. Upon open very giving with cherry, cranberry, mint, plum and cedar, but closed up on itself a bit in the decanter. Very nice at the outset.

September 17, 2023 - This example of 1966 Talbot is a British-bottled one from the Phelps cellar with a high fill and exemplary color and cork. Yet it shows well only briefly, offering a rich cassis, walnut, nougat, fallen leaf profile with a tiny bit of the green peppercorn and mint that are signatures of Talbot in vintages 1961 and earlier. After about 15 minutes, the nose becomes simply with the walnut/nougat element taking center stage. Followed for hours, this never pulls itself together. At its debut, 87 points.

April 15, 2023 - A flight of ‘66 (dbl mag) ‘78 (750ml), ‘83 (dbl mag) and ‘89 (750ml). A respectable showing for all! All wines double decanted and prepared expertly for service. Short TN. The ‘66 was certainly alive and though the most ‘murky’ (on the palate, not in color) and oxidiative of the group, certainly still enjoyable! I’d be a little nervous about 750ml bottles as this was a dbl mag.

December 30, 2022 - Nice, in a cedary, campfire, capsicum kind of way. Actually plumped up and sweetened a bit as it warmed up and got some air. Very mature but still a lot to give as well.
