Community Tasting Notes 5

May 30, 2020 - CDP Corona Tasting...gotta love it!: This is a nice wine that will appeal to many people, but not my cup of tea! For me, it is reminiscent of a Sauvignon Blanc. Admittedly, I have not had many white Rhone styled wines, so I will not make general comments. I also am not a fan a grapefruit in a wine, hence, I am not a fan of New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs either, of which this wine reminded me of, although not as pronounced grapefruit. For me, the nose was the best part of the wine, offering green apple, citrus, minerality and spice, with a hint of apple blossom. On the palate, it offered similar flavors as the nose, but I had a hard time getting past the grapefruit. This wine will appeal to a lot of people, and my score may be rather conservative. I find the wine drinkable for my palate, but not a wine I would personnally seek out. BTW...the grapefruit was not that pronounced, but when you don't like something (e.g., green pepper in food), you notice it even if there is not much there. 89-90 Points.

May 30, 2020 - Single-blind Chateauneuf du Pape (Everyone's House): Wild honey and beeswax, with the complete absence of any sweetness. Slightly austere and aristocratic.

May 28, 2020 - Virtual Single Blind CdP Tasting (Home): Light gold color. Drank a glass over an hour. 53% Viognier, 33% Roussanne, 14% Marsanne. This was not as precocious as it was two years ago. Hi tone minerality on the nose, lemon blossom, citrus and peach. The palate feels lean and lively, dried roses, citrus and peach. Lovely. 91+pts.

April 4, 2018 - Baked apple pie with light floral notes. I feel the wine is in balance, and shows nice complexity. Price is a little high, but compared to Northern Rhone its not bad.

November 3, 2017 - Napa/Sonoma Trip With Some Exceptional Gems; 11/1/2017-11/5/2017 (1800ft Up Cavedale Road, Glen Ellen, CA): Tasted at the Chateau. Light gold color. Drank 1 glass over 20 minutes. Aromatic nose, floral, lychee, light white fruits, citrus. On the palate, crushed rocks, mineral driven, lychee, melon, floral. Very tasty. 91+pts.
