April 25, 2022 - 94: Nose: Sweet flowers, like being in a meadow, lots of cocoa, tilled earth, very faint horse hide. Palate: Mouth coating tannins, earth-forward, slate and almost a gritty sand flavor; there's also an iodine-like minerality that with the sandy component reminds me of the ocean, very small hint of black pepper on the finish. This wine has a beautifully balanced mouthfeel, assertive tannins with backgrounds of earth and fruit that are not weighed down by high alcohol (13%); I could drink this all day. On day two, an oxidative fruit character began to peek through, but I tend to like tannic, younger wines, so while this definitely has a lot of life left, I think this is in an ideal spot right now.

December 12, 2021 - Sunday Brisket (Matt's, Portland OR): Nose: The nose is pure Bandol in all of its meaty glory with black cherries, black raspberries, roasted game meats, licorice, tobacco, herbs, leather, dark spices, and violets.

Taste: The feel is Medium/Full bodied with tart, medium+ acidity and chewy, medium+ tannins. There is a savoriness to the tones with black cherries, black raspberries, roasted game meats, licorice, herbs, tobacco, leather, and violets.

Overall: This is quintessential Bandol and it really hits that spot. This can definitely age for years to come, but it’s just filled with all sorts of savory goodness right now.
