Community Tasting Notes 2

March 31, 2016 - Decanted. Cork broke on extraction but the top 2/3 was in fair shape, not saturated.

It took 10 minutes for the nose to arrive. More fruit than I would have guessed. Black currant, plums raisins, vanilla - no funk.

after 15 minutes, pallet still needs time to blow off some harshness, less fruit, more wood and leather, pencil shavings. In the mouth I’m seeing the darker flavors I’d expect from an old bordeaux. still a twinkle of acidic tartness, but not for long.

respectable finish of tobacco, black coffee, and a bit of bakers chocolate. NR

August 4, 2013 - I suspect this was never a bottle with much potential and I don't recall why I bought it. But I have 4 bottles in my cellar and I need to move this older stuff out.

The long 2 inch cork was pretty soaked but it coaxed out in one piece. I decanted and screen filtered, but there was no real sediment. The color was a bit pale by Bordeaux standards.

After 30 minutes in the decanter the little bit of mustiness was gone. There was an understated bouquet of earth, and leather with hints of black fruit, cedar, but no funk.

On the pallet there is still cassis, leather, earth, brown spice, which fades into a moderate finish brightened by the little bit of acid that is left in the wine.

I expected this wine was done with and it was a nice surprise to find it still alive, kicking and enjoyable. At 23 years of age I can forgive the minor flaws and savor the heritage. Drink it up soon.
