July 3, 2020 - Very deep color from the initial pour into the decanter—deep plum/blackberry coloration. Medium sentiment. Began drinking at about 1 hr 45 mins and it initially had a fair bit of tannins at that point—it drank younger than 20 years. Softened out at about 3 hrs and was pretty enjoyable, and some of the wine’s age began showing through. 2000 wasn’t an overall great year but this was a good bottle nonetheless; still, I probably wouldn’t prioritize it over other other older or newer bottles at a similar price point (unless it’s in your cellar, of course).

March 13, 2018 - Château Montelena Vertical: This has a classic nose of blackberry and currant fruit with some earth tones coming through the dry wood, and good minerality. Still vibrant and youthful, but the first wine of the vertical showing more terroir character in addition to the plummy fruit. Palate has lush and syrupy blackberry tannin.

October 28, 2017 - A touch of ruby in the core with garnet elsewhere. Herbal on the nose with a touch of greenery and blackberries. Medium tannins (5.5/10) with solid acidity and medium bodied. Layered palate with mint, herbal, black cherries, plums and cinnamon. Medium plus length finish. Drink till 2019.

November 1, 2014 - I didn't expect much but this was a nice surprise from a corner of my cellar. Medium garnet color, nice floral cab nose with some herbal elements. Pleasant mouthfeel and decent fruit of the red variety with some licorice and a touch of mushroom. Fairly short aftertaste.

May 10, 2014 - Drinking well, needed an hour in the decanter to open up.
