Community Tasting Notes 5

December 4, 2021 - Amber to brown in color, very little on the nose, old leather at most, thoroughly oxidized on the palate. Dumped.

October 17, 2015 - Old Vines Offline III (Mi Casa): This vintage changed the direction from the ripe '97 to a red fruited profile, better balance with some acidity still holding it all together. The nose had a strong mushroom note that was a little off-putting for me and I poured out my first glass without tasting. On re-visit I found the underlying fruit to be enjoyable. The nose was difficult for me though.

April 8, 2011 - This wine was tasted in double-blind fashion at Vintage Wines, Ltd. The bottle was kindly provided by Mike Christensen. Deep-to-opaque garnet/amber in color, it shows a very intense bouquet (immediately after decanting) of cigar box, ripe plums, earth and cocoa. Full-bodied on the palate, with medium acidity, melted tannins and well-integrated alcohol (listed as 14.8%%). The flavors are complex and mirror the nose. The middle palate is solid and the smooth finish is very long. There are certain Zinfandels that age well...this is one of them. That said, when Zinfandel ages, it takes on many characteristics of an aged Cabernet. I guessed this wine to be an '87 Napa Cab (oops!). Drink now-12/14.

May 24, 2009 - BLACK CHERRY AND WOOD IN THE NOSE WITH RICH BLACK CHERRIES AND BLUEBERRIES IN THE FLAVOR. NICE LEGS AND A MEDIUM TO LONG FINISH.
