Community Tasting Notes 5

December 30, 2023 - Direct hit of glue and petrol on the pretty intense nose. exotics as mango, papaya, starfruit combine with a degree of spiciness only found on better rieslings.
Intense and quite thick palate as well with ripe lemon/lime leaf, pomolo, ginger, clove, pleasant bitters and a sulfer hint. After 10 minutes a wide coating mineral structure appears and the wine ends long.

This is a very good riesling offering complexity, depth and power. Spend 20 euros on it at the domaine in '17 which is an outstanding qpr. for todays 40 eur in Europe I would probably go for something else.

August 26, 2023 - Bürklin-Wolf Tasting with Nicola Libelli (Freiheit Vinothek, Ulm, Germany): Glass: Zalto Burgundy
    Tasted blind.
Clear, pale golden color. Deep, phenolic and spicy nose.
On the palate beautiful tension, ripe fruit, a bit coca cola, juicy and spicy. Beautiful structure and texture, fresh, dark, dense and long. Great PQR 93+

August 13, 2023 - Top class. Fairly pale still. Aromas of ginger, citrus and lemongrass. Medium weight but intense palate. Bold refreshing acidity. Long and complete.

    October 21, 2019 - 12,5% alcohol.

Quite intense and moderately deep yellow-green color that is showing more yellow inflections. Cool, fragrant and subtly sweet-toned nose with aromas of ripe apple, some floral notes of orange blossom, light smoky mineral tones, a little bit of nectarine, a hint of wet stones and a touch of honeyed richness. The wine is dry, medium-bodied and somewhat lean on the palate with very youthful flavors of steely minerality, tart green apples, some lemon juice, a little bit of herbal spice, a hint of stony minerality and a touch of flinty smoke. The bracing acidity lends the wine great intensity and sense of structure, making the wine feel a bit austere but not aggressive. The finish is long, precise and quite high-strung with cool flavors of steely minerality, tangy green apples, some key lime, a little bit of wet stone and a hint of zesty lemon fruit.

A slightly lean and tightly-wound but also very sophisticated and harmonious Riesling with tons of minerality and racy acidity paired with fresh, precise fruit flavors. Overall the wine is still so tightly-knit with a tough mineral core that it will need years more to unwind. Most likely the wine will be quite austere on its own for years, but will turn out great with patient cellaring. If opened now or within the next few years, requires good food pairing to tone down the structure and coax out fruitier notes underneath the minerality.

January 10, 2019 - Similar in color to the Altenburg; this is also clenched on the palate. The Altenburg strikes me as more slightly coiled/energetic, but this is still nice, if also too young.
