Community Tasting Notes 15

February 27, 2022 - Splash decanted about 15min prior and served just below cellar temp. The 2015 Santa Chiara pours a brilliant, burnished gold color. No real signs of particles or gas. Medium+ viscosity. On the nose, the wine is medium intensity and remarkably clean! This stands in stark contrast to other orange wines from Paolo Bea like Arboreus and Lapideus which are wild AF. Instead, the olfactory is greeted with the most deliciously fresh smelling Pink Lady apples, apricots, tangerines, and yellow flowers. On the palate, the wine is dry and the tannins, while they grab my attention, are probably closer to medium. Medium…bordering on medium+ acid. On the palate, the pomaceous and stone fruits predominate along with some herbs and minerals all wrapped in a gorgeously textured package. Super well balanced. The finish is long, a touch bitter and provides plenty of zip to work with the Cacciucco that we made for dinner. An absolutely lovely, and quite becoming, orange wine that’s drinking so well right now. Bottle #4419/6400.

March 2, 2021 - Aerated to decanter for 3 hours, served at 11C and followed for 2 nights.
Complex blend of equal parts Grechetto, Malvasia, Garganega, Sauvignon, and Chardonnay. Macerated on the skins for 25 days, vinified in stainless steel without filtering/fining. Not everyone's cup of tea, and in fairness, the second night's performance would likely have expanded the fan base by another 30%+ if for no other reason that it wasn't quite as wild. The color alone is foreign to most, and therefor likely not in the comfort zone of most. That said, I loved both nights for what they were. Good+ with a mushroom and chicken risotto, but really, this lends itself to so many pairing options. 13,5% abv. highly recommended+

    September 4, 2020 - Last of 4 bottles. Corked, what a shame.

August 24, 2020 - I love "orange" wines, and I did not like this. Maybe a bad bottle?

June 15, 2020 - I liked this a lot more than most of the Bea whites I’ve tried, which can be fleshy and a bit too far out on the orange wine spectrum. This was taut, appealingly bitter, and slightly funky and feral in a good way. I’d rather drink their fantastic reds any day but this was pretty tasty.
