Community Tasting Notes 10

March 29, 2020 - Heavy barnyard on the nose laced with cassis and vanilla. Rustic, medium body. Stewed plums and bell pepper on the cool palate. Short mushroomy finish. Pleasant, uncomplicated and nearing the end of its lifespan.

March 28, 2016 - In line with the previous tasting. Certainly quite traditional and perhaps less attractive than prior tastings. Still, 11yrs for Crozes is more than reasonable so can't complain too much. Retains a stern structure and good tannin grip.

December 28, 2015 - Less inviting than the previous tasting and perhaps a return to more traditional Crozes. Some musty notes and daggy fruits points to a potential corked wine, albeit a fairly mild dose. Good enough to keep drinking.

June 28, 2015 - A classic example of the house TL style - deeply fruited, dry, long gravelly tannin - very recognisable even for a nufty like me. Finishes a touch short but it is 12 years old. And, considering the appelation, a great showing. The one criticism is that the house style does drown out any typical Crozes trait (perhaps a +ve?).

March 8, 2014 - Served blind. Medium dark purple color. Nose of smoke, tar, some blackberry and some rocky, mineral notes. Black and blue fruits on the palate but not ripe or sweet, with more smoky, meaty peppered beef jerky type flavors on the back end. Medium+ acid, medium tannins, dry finish. Compared to the bottle I had a few years ago, this was much better so perhaps the additional age helped it come together.
