February 5, 2024 - Hot, hot, hot. Fantastic fruit, but the alcohol just takes over. Smooth, clean… a really good wine but just… hot!

January 27, 2024 - This wine has a wonderful, deep, garnet color with vanilla and freshly cut grass on the nose. On the pallet, there are notes of blackberry, black cherry and chocolate with hints of leather. This selection has a long and lingering very pleasant finish. 4.5 Stars.

May 11, 2023 - One hour decant. Very deep dark ruby magenta color. Fig, currant, mushroom dust, dried mango, and subtle black olive. Smooth, dry palate. Round tannins on the longish finish.

This was drank directly after a ‘19 Maybach Amoenus, which really isn’t fair (and likely diminished the score a bit). This ‘15 Turnbull is drinking very nicely and has lots of life left (even for me).

May 9, 2023 - Late addition pnp from our host Agelvis to do a comparison alongside the already decanted '19 Maybach Amoenus this evening. Maybe the pnp didn't quite do it justice. Then again, it's a totally different vintage and a very different winemaking style, too. Medium ruby in the glass, nose of fresh fig, a small whiff of alc, light mushroom, I think Mrs. Agelvis said mushroom 'dust'? With an hour of air an umami/savory addition to the palate along with now a 'candied' fig fruit profile and a decidedly black olive finish. The finish seemed short to me, however. Most of the wine is 'in balance' but there seems to be just a tad of something off, compared to the much younger Maybach version, tonight. That's why it's so hard and so unfair at times to try to do comparisons like this. Still, it was a very fun experience with great wine friends. Thanks for popping one of these, J!

Addendum: half bottle in the fridge under vacuum overnight so tasting it the 2nd night and it's improved further. I'm going to up my score from 93 to a 95 given the improvement all around on the nose, palate and its overall structure. It's amazing how much more together this bottle is tonight. Its timing was just off a tad last night, akin to a hitter just missing and fouling off that good fastball when he should be crushing it.......tonight, he's crushing it.
