December 20, 2023 - Built like a tank. Extraordinary power and tension with a lithe body. A good preview at this stage. The color has developed somewhat - deeper yellow at this stage. Started out very reductive, after 2 hours with air - lemon verbena, lemon cream, acacia blossoms, judicious barrel spice emerges. This has a very broad and zesty mid-palate - there is an explosion of flavor along with intense chalky dry extract and powdery minerals that at times overwhelms the palate and the senses. At this age, there is also a lot of nervous energy and tension. It will be a treat to follow this/re-taste at the 10 yr mark (2026 or after).

May 19, 2023 - Brought this to a luncheon at de Librije. Served second in a flight of 3 stupendous whites, with the ‘08 Lafon Perrieres first & the ‘05 Carillon BBM being the anchor. With the exemplary Lafon setting the stage (which was in a great drinking window), I was initially concerned that this Drouhin might not be up to mark but my concerns were apparently unfounded after the first sniff & sip. Aromas of white-flowers, citrus, chalk, cream (like a freshly opened can of baby-formula) wafted from the (Zalto-shaped Spiegelau) glass. Whilst the Lafon Perrieres was immediately powerful on the attack, this Monty had a linear entry, then enveloped/encircled the palate, going on a fan out attack. It was at the same time fresh, pure/racy, rich/weighty (lots of dry extract) & seamless, but perhaps not as deeply pitched as the ‘05 Carillon BBM which it should become with more age. This got more complex with air/time in the glass, and finished with a nice length. Great & delicious, with certainly more upside as it ages!

January 16, 2023 - Well it was our wedding anniversary so I picked a very nice restaurant in NYC and they let me bring a special bottle as long as it was not on their wine list. The nose is citrus flowers and vanilla. The palate was tangerine, a little vanilla and a little oak. The finish was long and lush. My wife was very happy.

September 11, 2020 - Decanted into a Voss bottle close to noon, and it must've been ~7-8hrs by the time we got to this during dinner. Pure white-flowers, apples & citrus/lemons were the main drivers for the nose, on top of a faint (but very fine) streak of oak (almost in the background). More yellow-fruits followed, with an almost powdery/creamy extract & texture, further buoyed by great intensity, electricity & cut on the palate. Beside the '05 Marc Colin Monty, this seemed to be more angular (or leaner), but I certainly expect this to flesh out and improve even more given time in the cellar. A very nice showing!
