December 23, 2022 - Focussed à point cherry, dry spice and minty nuances with steely mineral core. Suffused cedary tannins and a classic bitter cherry finish. All rather tight and in need of further integration to bring the elements together.
Hold till 2025. Potential 91?+ -

December 19, 2020 - Up in the Berkshires, three days after a big snow storm (17 inches), on the night that was supposed to be our re-scheduled wedding, the original having been cancelled because of Covid, and this re-scheduled one cancelled for the same reason. We planned a lovely dinner, with duck at the center. My wine choices were limited to what I picked up at Zachys on the ride north, and I passed on the '17 Jamet Cote Rotie and '13 Biondi Santi Brunello (both too young) in favor of this young Burg.
Decanted for about five to six hours, and it needed it to show its charms. This lacks the density and gravitas of a vintage like '15, but is still pretty damn nice. Cherries, cranberries, a hint of blood orange, maybe some game bird (a la Gilman), black tea. The sweetness of fruit is a bit submerged and the tannins are noticeable but softened with a long decant. A lovely and pleasing wine, although at this stage, not a particularly awesome wine. I took a taste the next morning, and it showed more structure, and still some gentle red fruit. This should be great in six or so years. -

April 19, 2019 - 2018 Visit to Domaine Faiveley (Nuits St. Georges): An interesting bouquet. Rusty metal, mineral, earth, dark spices and mainly black fruit. On palate, also largely dark fruit, soil and dried herbs. A serious, austere core of irony minerals. A little closed (give it 5+ years). Polished, fine grained tannins. Focussed acidity. Good length, finishing bone dry. Very good.
