March 9, 2024 - Riper than expected, with darker, tart cherries and some dried raspberries. Offered a bit more savory and spiced notes with air, but this felt out of balance to me, showing off more alcohol than expected. I think this needs several years.

October 24, 2023 - Opened in Tokyo. P&P and enjoyed slowly.

This was quite possibly the best bottle of Maréchale that I've had to date - I swear that the winemaking gets a little better every vintage. Classic Mugnier charm, clean and elegant and didn't really feel the rusticity that you might associate with Nuits. Lovely mix of red and darker fruits on the nose, silky smooth and balanced on the palate with a long finish - very pleasurable and exactly what I was looking for.

Will keep at this level, but also drinking well right now. Potential small upside as everything loosens up a bit more, but also wouldn't hesitate if you have the itch to try it.

Given the notes below, it seems there's a lot of bottle variation for this wine. I'm glad that I managed to strike a good bottle!

August 13, 2023 - This one's still hanging on, I suspect for another 15+ years. It took a few moments, but there is a black fruit density and finish that last forever. Deep purple and seductive aromas. Decant vigorously if you're going to pop the cork.

August 1, 2023 - Deep purple. This is rather dense and bordering jammy (in Burgundian terms) but I wouldn’t place it there just yet. Dark cherries, violets, some oak. Mugnier is making some really deep, ripe and full NSGs in recent vintages, and I’m not sure that is quite up my alley yet. Perhaps the Mugnier name is creating some sort of shortfall in expectation in my subconscious.

January 22, 2023 - Clos de la Marechale Vertical (Decatur, GA): Cloudy maroon; fleshly nose, tar, darker fruit, plummy, seems simple, riper, lacks a little focus, ok but I kind of think it's in a dumb phase.
