April 28, 2024 - First note on CT but this was too good to stay on the sidelines. Fragile cork but came out in one piece with an ah-so. Lemon, petrol, lanolin. Faint oxidative notes. Still super fresh and unreal acidity for a 23 year old white even after being open for 4 hours. Finish goes on for what seems like forever. Feels like this still has a lot to give with proper cellaring. One of the better whites from recent memory. Wouldn’t be surprised if this continues to improve over the next decade plus. Bravo!

January 29, 2024 - Drank alongside an old Kalin Chardonnay and slightly preferred this. Very complex and still fresh.

December 27, 2023 - Showing its age, but still excellent - maybe a bit better after being open for a couple of days (in the cellar). A dry Sauterne with a very slight sweetness. Drink now.

October 31, 2023 - Bordeaux 2000 & 2001 Horizontal (Piccolino, Exchange Square, London): This starts with some brown sugar and a suggestion of sweated leak. Really begins to blossom in the glass with beeswax, some butterscotch, some lime zest and some wet wool. Texturally we are absolutely in Bordeaux white territory, really good length and a nettly interest too. My bottle served blind and very pleased with how it showed. Apparently 75% Semillon and 25% Sauvignon Blanc.

October 31, 2023 - Neil's 2000 & 2001 Bordeauxs (Piccolino, London): Blind. Deepish yellow, immediate sign that we were dealing with an older wine. Pleasingly rich on the nose, with bales of straw, wet wool, pineapple, peppermint sweets, and perhaps the first hints of oxidisation. Very spicy, with a bitter and nutty edge, with the fruit elements less discernible although I do pick up something along the lines of lime pickle. It's pretty serious stuff, and whilst the group broadly get to Semillion we need various hints to get to the location. Time to drink up, but who knew? Not me that's for sure! A really interesting start to the evening, and a clever (devious!) blind entry.
