July 2, 2021 - Deep ruby-black
Attractive aromas of ripe blackcurrant, dried blueberries, dried mint, perhaps, or even sage (?) with a slight lolly stick combined with spice to suggest oak influence. Maybe a hint of blackcurrant leaf as the wine opens? or greener undergrowth.
Mid-bodied with plenty on the entry with bright fruits popping out, penetration to the palate with oodles of blackcurrant compote and cassis fruits underscored by a zesty lemon acidity and chewy yet sweet tannins.
Some complexity from savoury nuances add interest whilst the fruits on the palate seem more baked than the nose. Powdery texture, more than fleshy, there is a sweetness (from ellagic tannins) that combines with 90%+ bitter chocolate. Good length, smart wine but not with the depth and concentration of some earlier vintages like 2012, yet still a beautiful wine. -

September 27, 2020 - Nose: The nose is plush and balanced with dark red cherries, plums, raspberries, black currants, cocoa powder, licorice, bell peppers, sweet tobacco, smoke, and cedar notes.
Taste: The feel is full bodied with medium acidity and chewy, medium+ tannins. There is a bit of coarseness to the tannins as well while the plushness of the nose follows through with dark red cherries, plums, raspberries, black currants, bell peppers, cocoa powder, sweet tobacco, and cedar notes.
Overall: This is lovely stuff. This shows off the warmer climate while also retaining a slight old-world sensibility. It does lack some depth if one is comparing to top new world cabs, but this is a really damned good $30-35 cab that will please a lot of palates. -

September 26, 2018 - South African wine tour - Day five (Stellenbosch): Medium minus intensity blackcurrant and a little pencil shavings, cedar backed by sweet spice. Wetly juicy, tight tannins, blackcurrant and spice with plenty of cedar. Nice.

August 29, 2018 - Alc: 14%; Deep crimson red.
A lifted rather a tutti-frutti nose, some cassis and pencil shavings and raspberry; all seemed a little frivolous for a serious wine.
The palate was delicate but a lot more lightweight than expected. The fruit has purity, some raspberry coulis, bramble, black cherry yoghurt, a hint of blackcurrant and zingy fresh acidity. The wine seemed to lack both depth and concentration, especially in the context of the 2015 vintage. The finish had a pure blackcurrant juice note but seemed a little sweet and simple. Perhaps more time is needed; luckily have five more bottles.
