January 22, 2023 - Drank over a three day period. Classic and savory with mostly earthy tones, dry flowers and herbs, iron, iodine, menthol. Not very expressive but quite balanced. Tannins and acidity are still on the high end. Austere and drying finish.

December 9, 2022 - Visit to Azienda Agricola Giacomo Fenocchio (The Bussia Hillside, Monforte d’Alba, IT): Tasted with Claudio Fenocchio at the winery on the Bussia Hillside. This much maligned vintage was drinking quite well. It showed as a light to medium translucent garnet color. The nose was quite fragrant for not very floral, rather more earthy and spicy with nice mineral undertones notably some charcoal in my perception. Given the vintage the tannins were not aggressive and the acidity while bright was not overly tart. Rich and chewy on the palate with distinct cherry but more savory overall. Fairly evolved and less bright than most everything we tasted today but balanced well enough and quite ready to enjoy.

February 20, 2022 - Fine, traditional, young Nebbiolo, but surprisingly accessible right now. Masculine, sour morello cherry, with a hit on heat on the nose. Palate is firm, elegant chalky tannins, medium bodied, with more sour cherry, orange peel and tar. No oak or discernible heat in the mouth. Maybe doesn’t have the depth or complexity to really wow, and still Needs time to unfurl, but shapes up to be a classic Barolo. Long finish that sneaks up on you. 91 with a point or two of upside.

June 11, 2021 - Consumed over a period of three days, after an initial decant for three hours. Roses, good red fruit, red cherry, light earth, fresh herbs, and spice, with good, well-integrated acidity, dusty but well-behaved tannin, and impressive length. Medium-bodied and well-balanced. Very mineral. Kept developing as it breathed. Very beautiful! Almost feminine. But energetic. At least on day one. Lost tension and became a little drying from day two. For early and mid-term drinking.
