  November 2, 2021 - Ridge Monte Bello Retrospective (Porter House): The wine from the Judgement of Paris which scored well initially but then won the 30 year retrospective tasting. You can tell why. It is more approachable than the 72, lovely dark fruits and again that fresh and pretty style (I think I get that because there's almost a small subcurrent of menthol in these). Still young with lots of life left. Suspect it could do quite well at a 50 year retrospective as well! Prob my favorite of this flight.

  October 23, 2013 - Dinner With Paul Draper in NYC - older vintages of Ridge (Cafe Boulud): This has a beautiful, pure nose of black fruits, roasted nuts, minerlas and eucalyptus. POn the palate it is dry and leaner but still filled with good black fruit flavors and great mineral notes. A great wine for sure but perhaps a touch past its best given the dryness of the tannins.

  August 30, 2008 - Dinner at Eleven Madison Park: The show-stopper. Decanted at the restaurant. Dark red and so youthful in appearance, you’d never suspect the wine is over 35 years old. Great nose of aged cab cedariness with a decidely minty edge. Long and very savory with great sap and power, with a wonderful finish that ends just a bit tart.

  Deep garnet core, slight bricking, pure sweet nose of ripe cherry and light blackcurrant, tannins a little short but not over the hill at all.
