February 19, 2024 - Tasted alongside the 2017.
Gorgeous perfume of blue and purple fruits and berries, thick petal flowers, late summer potpourri, berry liqueurs, mint, sous bois, and complex earthiness. Minimal alcohol intrusiveness. Sophisticated, layered, intriguing.
The wine tastes like it smells, in inflection changing waves. Harmonious at all phases. The elegance masks impressive structure. Deep and satisfying finish.
All elements point to an optimal drinking window after 2040. No reason not to sample bottles now and there is an upside. Higher quality than the 2017. 95-96.1 person found this helpful Comment -

June 23, 2023 - Of course deepest opaque black purple…
Cassis blackberry nose..alcohol whiff…thick unctuous body and legs
Deep blueberry, cassis, oak, but surprising acidic lift …
Not sweet and cloying…
Very nice port..1 person found this helpful Comment -

October 23, 2021 - Decanted 48 hours. Tasted blind alongside '17 Cockburn VP, '16 & '17 Dow VP, '16 & '17 Taylor's VP.
Thicker and darker fruit than both Dow's, not as muscular as either Taylor's, and with a shorter finish.
The 2016 Cockburn had more spice and earthiness, slightly less balanced fruit, slightly longer finish than the 2017 Cockburn.
Excellent, but weaker than the competitors.
