June 5, 2020 - AP #6. Just got these delivered finally and had to try one. The nose lets you know right away that this is going to be special. Peach, honey, spice, green herbs, mint, cumin, minerals. It has great fruit and sweetness but also amazing crispness and snap. Maybe some acidic pineapple and tropicals in there as well - a bit of the passion fruit that I sometimes get in the best BJS bottlings. The palate is similar to the nose - lots of sweet fruit but also very lively, excellent acid to brace it, and good crunch. As the palate develops it get a little thicker and the sweetness goes out of balance w the acid just a touch - it gets a bit cloying and fuzzy (but like a 1-2/10 on that while the 18 Mullen ** Spat was like a 7-8 on that scale). It seems to resolve a bit with air and at the end of the palate, so it could just be stuffed full and will resolve with more air. Even with that, it's an excellent bottle and should develop well for about 20 years and then will ride the plateau for a while. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5-5.5/6, Finish - 4.5-5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 16.5-17.5/20.

August 21, 2019 - AP 10 18. I’ve always felt like Fritz Haag’s Auslesen kind of get lost in the lineup. The Spatlesen are always gorgeously racy and light, whereas the goldcaps are spectacular showpieces. The 2017 clocks in at no exception to that rule. A beautiful wine and exceptionally well made, but everything that made the immediate lower and higher Pradikat neighbors so breathtaking just seem a bit lost in the Auslese. Gorgeously ripe and defined although having a slightly hollow middle-pallet that seemed plague a lot of Mosel producers in this vintage (Zilliken and Schaefer exhibited this as well), it just feels like something is missing for completeness. It filled out a bit over the next few days so I have faith this will turn into something great over time. But I’m keeping my hands off my remaining bottles for a while.

July 5, 2019 - For me, white wine should be mineral, sweet, stoney, tropical & refreshing. Most Riesling wines does that, if its quality.
THIS wine does all that to perfection!

Pineapple, lemon, apple, strawberry, pear, limestone & hay. All together at once. This is a wine that you just cant stop drinking.
Acidity is almost like non-existing. The wine is so soft.

If tasting severel red wines at one night, or having a fat & heavy meal, this white Fritz Haag just refreshes your palate all along.
It's so young, already drinkable and will only improve through the years.

March 28, 2019 - Babies are delicious. Pear, saline, honeycomb, lime zest. Long finish.

June 7, 2018 - [06 18] Tasted after Juffer Sonnenuhr Spätlese. Richness on the nose, tropical fruit, honey, hints of floral notes, herbs and crushed stones. Ripe acidity on the palate, very pronounced minerality. The combination with the generous and sweet fruit results in quite an amazing mouthfeel - vibrant, saline, smooth, complex. Very long. Very impressive. 94-95+
