Community Tasting Notes 8

July 8, 2012 - Picked up this '03 on a whim (half price) to see if it was still tasting good. Normally, well made whites will stand the test of time and this one definitely has. A little scary at first since the cork split in half on opening but the wine itself is excellent. A mature chardonnay, light honey colored with a bit of a musty nose, the flavors mainly hit the mid palate with oak and subdued lemon/creme brulee. Interesting to taste a good chardonnay that has some age on it.

October 23, 2008 - Drink now, more aging won't improve this wine. A good wine but not great

September 18, 2008 - What an absolutely great chardonnay and certainly could stand cellaring even longer - very sorry to see our last bottle gone. Enjoyed with Kim earlier tonight with dinner of spinach salad, butter-fried mushroom medley and pan-fried grouper. Somewhat subtle yet fruit-forward nose, nicely dry, primarily yellow apples, green melon and some vanilla. Very complex for a chard, smooth and well integrated without any off-tones at all, good structure and firm with very pleasant mouth feel and great lingering aftertaste on the palate. Surprisingly dry and minerally, primary flavors included a hint of floral tones, vanilla and certainly green fuit in an exceptionally well-balanced package. One of the better whites we have had in a long time, quality wise on par with the Sbragia Gamble Ranch chard of the same vintage which to me is the bench-mark of California chards although certainly much less buttery and drier.

April 21, 2007 - This is not a buttery chard. very clean with a mineral finish. I bet this would be good a few more years, so if you have one bottle, age it a little longer.

February 4, 2007 - This Chard is definitely in the light style. This is a very feminine Oregon Chard. It has a light feel all the way 'round. On the nose, you have light dusted peaches. On the palate you have light dusty oak features that are elegant and not overdone. A little high in alcohol, but it sort of lends to a nice vicous minerality that is a great match with food. The finish is 15-20 seconds and not overdone. Hard to pick on the pretty Oregon Chard!
