Community Tasting Notes 6

November 9, 2013 - Joe opened four bottles of Italian wine from his cellar and hosted dinner. Third place. Youngest of the wines present, dark fruit, more plum than cherry fruit, mouth filling with lots of very soft tannins, at its peak but why wait? Third place.

January 1, 2010 - This was supposed to be WON at our New Years Eve, Italian Fest but alas it was oxidized. Wondering if anyone else saw this? The cork on the 1995 wine was completely fresh except for a small ring of wine and crystals around the bottom 1/4 inch of the cork. The wine was brown and had turned to vinegar. I purchased this in 2007 after trying it at tasting where it was described as an unusual example of Chianti that ages well.

August 2, 2008 - I think this is an outstanding Chianti. Not too acidic, very easy to drink, a fine nose. I drank this in parallel with a 2005 isole e olena, which is a pretty drinkable low-priced chianti; the difference was staggering. This Badia is well worth its $50-$60 tag, imo.

March 25, 2007 - Musty and dirty to open, but lifted in about 15 mins. Cherry blossoms, clove, orange peel on the nose. Tart cherries, slight saline, lemon conserve. Very light and precise. A bit of cured meat on the finish with some tobacco-ey/ briar-wood sensations. Nice weight and purity. Ideal with pasta bolognese.

February 14, 2006 - Bit of burnt orange peel and mustiness on the nose. Resolved to more pomander, cleaner. Tart cherries, a bit of tobacco, citron. Light body. Nice finish with some leathery leanings. Good balance, but not assertive. Very nice with pasta.
