Community Tasting Notes 1

    July 24, 2018 - 12,5% alcohol. Tasted blind.

Very intense honeyed yellow color with faint lime-green highlights. The nose is very rich, complex and stunningly impressive with rich aromas of panna cotta, brooding toasty character, some toffee and sweet, dark-toned nougat notes, a little bit of raspberry leaf tea and a touch of crème à la vanille. Stunning. The wine is full-bodied and quite heavy-set on the palate with bold, complex and almost bone-dry flavors of autolytic toasty character, rich nuttiness, some toffee, light beeswax tones, a little bit of cherry-driven darker fruit, a hint of stony mineral bitterness and a touch of baked apple. The wine feels remarkably balanced and harmonious, thanks to the high acidity and quite rich, creamy mousse. The finish is very long, nuanced and mouth-cleansing with pronounced stony minerality and developed flavors of toffee, wizened cherries, autolytic notes of brioche and caramel, some ripe red apples, a little bit of ripe citrus fruits, light steely minerality, a hint of bruised apples and a touch of roasted nuts.

A mature Franciacorta at its peak. This is just stunningly beautiful, complex and harmonious stuff. Basically everyone tasting the wine agreed that this must be a Champagne with some bottle age, most likely early 2000's or late 1990's. Most likely the wine will keep for years to come, but I doubt there will be much further development. Very highly recommended.
