January 20, 2022 - PNP into Riedel Burgundy glass (“Fruit” day): Pale bright garnet to the eyes.

Ultra rich and decidedly more floral and herbal bouquet than the Chambertin tasted before. Very deep nose that prompts one to ponder and observe its evolution every sniff. In general, this is more about dark red cherries, and the plums on the fruits. Smoke and florals with lots of nice details.

There is a sense of inner energy here but needs time to unfold in glass. Superior elegant white spices, amazingly tightly wound yet very mellow. Lots of tingly minerality on palate. Very generous and long on the finish with distinctive spices.

    Easily 95-96 points.

20 mins upon first pour, 5/6 left: getting more and more savory to almost a graphite / pencil shavings notes in a nice way.

Less about fruits but somehow reminds me of the flavors of a Bourgogne Chapitre from Bizot (now “Marsannay Chapitre”), which seems to be similar in soil composition as mentioned by some.

Note that is however much more suave in terms of tannin texture compared with some of the less impressive bottles of Bizot which can be quite tannic.

40 mins upon first pour, 2/3 left: more secondary ripe purplish cherry fruits, very good integrated with the oak notes here and seems indeed a little “creamy” likely from the malolactic fermentation here. Very nice and enjoyable wine here and more towards 96 points now.

Almost one hour upon first pour, 1/2 left: Ultra medicinal and herbal on the nose that sets this apart. Menthol and superbly concentrated in a very nice way. Wow. 96 points solid now.

1.5 hour upon first pour, 1/3 left: Superb smoky floral notes. More medicinal indeed. Very nice assortment of spices on nose at this stage. Retain at 96 points.

1 hour 45 mins upon first pour, 1/4 left: So complex and smoky in a nice way in a distinctive way. Pure silk on palate at this point. A little meaty and a little inky, but also more red bramble fruits that adds to the complexity. So much material here indeed. Is this what people say “iron fist in a velvet glove”? Wow!

2 hours upon first pour, 1/5 left: More and more medicinal and inky. Fruits is giving way to again more graphite combined with herbal notes that is not unlike garriques?

Almost 3 hours upon first pour, 3rd final pour: Remained very bright and clear in terms of the optics. Very well held throughout and this is just consistently great classic style Bourgogne here. Really impressive. Retain at 96 points and reminds me of the zen-like integration for the Domaine de la Romanee Conti style to me now.

3 hours 15 mins upon first pour, 2nd final pour: more oyster and soy like notes inspiring a sense of integration of minerality and aged sous bois notes here. Still lots of polished and high definition organic red cherries and plums on the palate here which is a great achievement. 96 points.

3 hours 30 mins upon first pour, final pour: finally some very fine deposits here. Remained very consistent with oyster shell like minerality, lots of smoke and florals and supported by underlying fruits. Just great wine here with a great deal of materials.

December 3, 2021 - Cream aromatics signature. Wow level polish, balance and length. Becomes antiseptic with medicinal finish.

April 16, 2021 - Spectacular young Rousseau Beze. Explosive aromatics of pure, dark berry fruit. Impeccable balance. Powerful but with a light touch. Recent bottle of '05 CSJ probably gave a little bit more immediate pleasure but there's clearly another gear here. Fantastic.

    April 5, 2021 - A behemoth.
Probably the best burgundy I’ve ever tasted.

If it’s cherries here, they are very dark and very sweet, but my previous note is closer on flavors..

(She just kicks the shit out of the 2005 La Tache.)

    98-99 pts.

*An absolutely must taste wine —like a 1996 Salon or 2007 Eagle. It’s really as simple as that, bud. The concentration is like top Petrus— it simply does NOT oxidize noticeably over 2 days IN A GLASS...

(Rousseau Armand Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze) Medium, medium-plus colour. High-toned aromatics, some mineral, some greenery and becomes wider and wider - very complex. There’s lots of interest here. The acidity is quite good and together the tannin provides lots of personality. This is a superbly complex wine that I really loved.
