January 28, 2018 - Drunk alongside a 2002 Clos St Hune. It was a complete study of contrasts. Where the Clos St Hune was quite introverted and clearly derived its power from acid, minerality, and structure, the Boxler Brand was flamboyant, showing really ripe exotic fruit. I understand that this is typical of the site (there’s some legend about a Dragon losing a battle with the Sun, being burned into the ground and warming the site). I don’t know how much longer this wine last, simply because I wonder if the ripe fruit and alcohol will eventually take over. But right now, especially with the right fruit (paired with roasted carrots cooked in spices), this was gorgeous. The CSH is clearly a long distance runner still holding so much in Reserve. But the Boxler was the life of the party, filling up everyone’s glass, telling jokes, and leading the conga line.

March 12, 2016 - The last time I had this wine was about 2 years ago, and it was basically perfect at that time. I did not realize I still had another bottle, so when I ran across it last night I had to open it. What followed was a bit of a wild ride that flirted with overripe and then later racy and rich. When I first opened the wine it showed as a vendange tardive with full on sweetness and rich peach, apple and botrytis spice. After about an hour this razor sharp vein of acidity emerged and for a while the wine was painful to drink. Fast forward another hour and the acidity integrated with the sweetness and the balanced wine I remembered from a couple of years ago finally emerged. A truly wild ride.

September 4, 2015 - Utterly characteristic, very severe and very very good. Early/mid mature I'd guess but no harm in drinking.

May 19, 2014 - L32K for those keeping track of the arcane code numbers.

This is absolutely amazing Riesling right now. I am not even going to try to describe it. Just wow. It's in a perfect place. Drink some if you've got it!

February 3, 2013 - Expected more of this. Possibly in a dumb phase; early promise shut down after five minutes. A bottle to be consulted again tomorrow or next week.
