February 22, 2024 - Still a bid brooding. Better after some time in the glass. Lots of red fruit, but a big boy! More intense than elegant. Still needed to wait

January 28, 2024 - The one with Luca Roagna (Teochew Paradise): The Marechale is always a very nice one to drink. Had this vintage before but today's showing was much better. Pretty on the opening with mulberries, violets, some earth and a very light touch of dried red fruit. Palate showed some rusticity, with damp earth, spices and cherry undertones. Palate shows quality here with elegance and depth that culminates in a really balanced mouthfeel. Well, if it smells like chambolle, tastes earthy and rustic yet has balance and elegance, it is Mugnier Marechale. Very stoked that to have called Mugnier from the get go.

January 28, 2024 - Drinking at its peak now with many years to come. Pronounced nose intensity with notes of red fruits, cherry, strawberry, toast, spices, flora. Medium acidity and medium tannin.

January 13, 2024 - This had a perfect cork seal and it was exquisite. Still with a pretty dark color; beautiful nose with initially a bit of game and leather then rapidly opens to beautiful morello cherry and black currant with violet and a hint of spice and damp earth. The palate has excellent balance and very good depth. The freshness is frankly surprising for an 18 yo wine and the tannins are there, but in a lovely package and not standing out in any way like many 05s. This was excellent and with good storage has lots of time ahead.

December 16, 2023 - Good shape, not bad, but lackluster. Very surprised at how this showed. B/J xmas party.

(Frédéric Mugnier Nuits-Saint-Georges Clos de la Maréchale, Burgundy) The Clos de la Maréchale vineyard, controlled for many years by the Faiveley family, reverted back to Frédéric Mugnier’s hands with the 2004 vintage. His 2005 shows a wonderful combination of dark and red fruits, great depth, and amazing balance. This wine not only showcases a classic vintage, but also demonstrates Mugnier’s insightful understanding of the vineyard in only his second year of ownership. I can only imagine what is to come in future vintages. Hot Picks
