  December 23, 2019 - The 2002 Bachelet Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Corbeaux is incredibly young and intense, lots of substance to unfold for a Premier Cru. Sleek and ripe dark berries and cassis with polished new oak spices and toast. Seriously rich and smooth with Grand Cru weight. Drink now to 2040. (90/100)

  August 25, 2019 - The 2002 Denis Bachelet Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux is impressively young and powerful, if tasted blind I would have guessed Grand Cru Gevrey Chambertin from 2005. True to its terroir - tightly laced black fruits sexy oak spices with inner sweet dark cherry and earthy Gevrey minerals. Discrete and sophisticated. Full bodied with Grand Cru thickness, I sometimes find Corbeaux more muscular than Mazis Chambertin, the Grand Cru vineyard next to it. Ample vanilla liquorice new oak yet well-integrated, still primary and only showing hints of black tea on the last pour. Incredibly tight and dense like a 2005, suave. (91/100)

  August 21, 2017 - First of a 6 pack purchased in 2006. Opened and decanted, then immediately poured two glasses which we swirled and sniffed while cooking for about 30 minutes. Started out with a bit of VA and a pronounced Ludens cough group impression on the nose. The VA gradually disappeared and gave way to first rich earth smells (decaying underbrush rather than mushrooms) and then chocolate and licorice with a little cinnamon peeking in. In the mouth it was round and softly nubby, a bit dusty with a gentle finish. There was bit of bitterness in the back of the throat for the first hour or so, which didn't particularly bother me - actually I didn't notice it until Jonathan pointed it out - but which faded away. Youthful without being young, and none of the hardness that Bachelet wines can evidence before they start into maturity. Really pretty Gevry. Agree with Kevin's note that it's not pure or transparent, and that's totally okay by me. Will probably give the next bottle another year.

  May 5, 2017 - A lost Friday afternoon gathering – Selosse, Cotat, Vatan, Ente, Red Burgs including 2011 Rousseau CSJ blind! (Blacksalt, Washington DC): Not so expressive nose displaying sweet ripe black fruit, blackberry, black cherry, licorice, dark spices and strong earth. Very good concentration, deeply toned black fruit driven palate impression, chewy, warm and earthy, medium acidity and a medium to long licorice and earth driven finish. It is a ripe earthy wine that needs time, not a wine if you are looking for purity and transparency.
