May 6, 2023 - Wine was in peak condition and easily improved for a number of hours, and still hadn't dropped 7 hours later when it was finished. impressive nose, but doesn't quite have the persistence of flavors on the palate to compare to 97 Chave, for example. but it does have hallmark elegance and acidity true to its appellation.

September 12, 2021 - This wine is dropping off very rapidly.
It already shows tired and disjointed.
Perhaps too new and a modern style to my taste...

December 28, 2020 - Not decanted, nor should it be.
This wine has already peaked and is starting to show signs of fatigue.
Still a very nice food pairing wine, but I plan to drink remaining bottles over the next year.

August 15, 2019 - Another great showing with no decanting.
Great display of Syrah at its finest with good balance and intense aromatics. Only suffered from following a great older Burgundy...
Drink over next couple of years.

June 21, 2019 - First of five bottles.
Not decanted and it shouldn't be at this point.
The hue is appropriate for the age of this wine.
Very broad and interesting aromatics ranging from iron/blood to smoky to spicy, fruit alcohol. The aromatics are surely at their fullest right now.
The tannins are almost dissolved and about the only reproach that you could make about this wine is that a little more structure would be needed to preserve this wine any longer, but it's already 22 years old...
Rich, silky mouthfeel, very well balanced and harmonious.
do not pair this wine with too strong a dish. Drink over next 3-4 years as it's probably at its peak now.

(Rene Rostaing Côte-Rôtie Cuvée Classique) Very dark red violet color; roasted meat, bacon fat, smoke, sausage, cigar box, tobacco nose; tangy, tart black fruit, bacon fat, pepperoni, sage sausage, cigar box palate; medium-plus finish

(Rene Rostaing Côte-Rôtie Cuvée Classique) Earthy, herbal nose; thin, ripe fruit, tart cherry, with nasty undertones; cliff finish (must be faulty?)
