Community Tasting Notes 10

May 4, 2019 - Really just a footnote to my previous entry in December 2017. I finished the last bottle of the case this week with old friends the Thompsons. The wine was just as stunning and I imagine could age more years yet. Of the 12 purchased at auction, I think 3 were flawed. Every cork I extracted just disintegrated but seemed to have done its job successfully in most instances. I'd love to find more of these!

December 30, 2017 - A bright, deep yellow gold colour with lovely viscous legs.
A lovely rich, buttery nose that shouts classy Chardonnay. Lots of toasty oak but still fresh.
Beautifully silky on the palate. There's masses of that rich buttery fruit underlined by oak flavours but it's all so perfectly integrated and well balanced. There's a massive burst of buttery fruit on the finish and tremendous length, perhaps 30 to 40 seconds.
What a superb wine and a really lucky purchase at auction just recently.
At 15 years of age I might have thought it would be on the verge of falling over but it's in perfect condition and with such balance could last years more.
The only downside is the corks seem shot but this hasn't affected the wine.

June 6, 2017 - Vibrant gold color, mellowed wood on the nose with a pineapple hint, mouthfilling, upheld by structuring and persisting acidity on swallowing; no trace of aging here, could hold five more years.

August 8, 2009 - Aged extraordinarily well. Caramel and apple on the nose with a little spice and an undertone of acidity. Very little mineral notes unlike when it was young. Deep amber hue.

March 20, 2009 - This one is very Sauternes like on the nose. Not as sweet but all tropical - pineapple coconut, vanilla but also some buttery chardonnay notes, nuts and honey. On the palate I found it lacking a bit complexity and a bit short. But overall an interesting effort.
