Community Tasting Notes 3

February 3, 2022 - Deep, crystalline, dried-blood color. Expressive nose of fruits (red and black) and flowers (wild rose petal). Generous, inviting body. Mouth-coating. Broad, soft, brushed texture. Moderate acids. Sandy tannins, almost chewy. Oak and alcohol are well-integrated. Long, slaking finish. Comparable to the 2013 vintage, the 2014 Liquid Sky is a standout. Day 2: unchanged. 14.9% abv. 92-93. D/H.

August 13, 2019 - Wow, this was terrible. I used to love Liquid Sky and had several previous vintages, many bottles of each, but both of these ‘14 bottles were mediocre, at best! This bottle is a few points lower then the first bottle.

I decanted this for 2 hours and had it on its own, as well as with food and both ways it was terrible. It takes a lot for me to just pour out wine, but I just did that exact thing with this one and didn’t shed a tear.

I’m going to do some research to see what has been happening at Liquid Sky? New winemaker, practices, management? I can’t believe how much this has fallen. What a shame!

July 5, 2019 - A quick PnP. Probably not doing it justice, but wanted a quick taste. Remainder of the bottle was properly resealed and I will do more deep taste later (probably Sunday).

Super dark, but a clear and nearly black, color. Aroma is big with a ton of black fruit and vanilla. Taste follows along with oak and some spice. Nicely balanced with smooth, soft tannins and minimal acidity. Medium bodied with a medium finish.

Not inexpensive at $38, but still a decently nice 89 Pointer with a Good QPR. For reference, the last time I bought this wine (I've had vintages 2009, 2010 and 2011), the price I paid was only $25 a bottle. An increase of about 50%. A hefty increase. I'm undecided if I’ll get more or not at this point. When I try this again on Sunday will be the determination.
