Community Tasting Notes 28

  • Claret & CdP Gang Likes this wine: 95 points

April 3, 2024 - At a trade tasting with Nenin, Potensac & Clos Marquis, dark red, soaring powerful classy aromas whiff from the glass, opened for 2.5 hours, outstanding nose, on the palate very refined with cashmere like tannins, easy to drink even at this young age

December 22, 2023 - The 2018 shows plenty of Las Cases style, full of mixed red, blue, and black berries with an intensely pencilly nose. The 14.49% ABV is shrouded in the generosity of the nose and the supple fullness of the palate, characteristics so ample that this should retain balance as the fruit mellows. This toes the line drawn by the vintage without crossing it, though you’d never confuse it for the classically proportioned 2016. 80% CS, 11% M, 9% CF, brought in from September 18 to October 10 with a pH of 3.65.

November 17, 2023 - Fresh blueberries black cherries, and currants on the nose to start, morphing into an intense combination of dark cherry liqueur, maraschino, cocoa, and licorice. Somewhat closed at first but with supple, sweet tannins, and a creamy mix of mostly dark blue and red fruits, slate, and cocoa. The second day, the wine was fully open, and had reached a point of appealing stasis, offering a silky mouthfeel and a delightfully orchestrated package of chocolate covered blue and red fruits.

September 11, 2023 - 2018 is full throttle. This one keeps it cleaner than the Cos but boy has it a lot of fruit. Balance is actually alright and the aftertaste is longer than a minute. Remaining bottles should rest at least 5 years.
