December 6, 2023 - First of fourteen purchased at retail. This retailer worries me more and more. The cork was traveled half way up in one spot, but the wine seemed sound.
This was a little unready on day one, but on day two, it was drinking very well, packed with cassis and powdery tannins. It was a very coherent whole with no sense of alcohol heat or any imbalance. As Jeff Leve says, this is a very good Potensac, and I would add this: even if it is very un-Potensac in nature—no rough and tumble rusticity or austerity here. If that reputation is what puts you off Potensac, give this a try. Being as supple and ready as it was, I do wonder whether this will have a long life, as Potensac typically does in good vintages… But it’s very good now, and for $25 US, who really cares? 14.5% ABV (very good/***/16/91)1 person found this helpful Comment -

October 22, 2023 - Dégustation Château Potensac.
Château 2010 (90), 2015 (89), 2017 (88), 2018 (88), 2019 (91)
Chapelle 2015 (88), 2019 (87)

October 9, 2023 - From a bottle purchased at retail recently. I despise high alcohol wines. That being said, I have a soft spot for Potensac, and even at 14.5% ABV, it must be said that this is an absolute winner.
This bottle showed signature Potensac leather and slightly lactic young black fruit on the nose, along with well concentrated black over red fruits wrapped up in very ripe, dusty tannins on the palate. The balance was exceptional (absolutely no heat at all), and the finish was long.
I have a case of 2016 Potensac I haven’t tried yet, so I can’t speak to how that compares; however, the excellent 2005 only beats this by a little bit. It might end up being a toss up between this and the exceptional 2010, but this is definitely superior to the 2015 and is in its first drinking window. It was best on day two after spending the night vacuumed in the fridge. 14.5% ABV (very good; distinguished/***/16.5/92)2 people found this helpful Comment -

June 18, 2023 - Nose: Mild cassis; overall muted. Palate: Tart black raspberry, a bit of oakiness is detectable beneath the fruit and tannins; good minerality, slight bitter and woody astringency persists throughout the finish.
