April 25, 2020 - Sparkman's 2017 Holler is an opaque ruby blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot and 3% Merlot, sourced from eight different prestigious vineyards in the Columbia Valley. Aged in a combination of American (70%) and French (30%) oak, 34% of which was new, it is a full-bodied red that flaunts attractive notes of black currants, tree bark, mulling spices, licorice and savory herbs. The wine's oak works...while noticeable, it somehow integrates with its bold fruit and spice flavors. Medium-to-long and laden with black fruit on the back end, this is a Cab that would sell for substantially more if the label were to read "Napa Valley," or for that matter, anywhere from the Golden State. This bottling shows why Washington State is where oenophiles need to search for the true values. Enjoy this young Cab over the decade. Drink now-2030.

April 15, 2020 - black and blue dark fruits. maybe some cassis. still very youthful and a little tight. decanted for 30 minutes and could use more. paired nicely with sheppards pie with smoked lamb meat. plenty of tannin to hold up against the smoked lamb flavors.
