September 11, 2020 - Evening with friends (@Private location, Solingen): Glass: Sophienwald
Perfect bottle. The color was amazingly young: pale yellow color. Exactly like the 2013 Halenberg we had before.
Fully developed, medium+ intense nose. Classic Zilliken. You either love it or hate it. Petrol, smoke, peat, slate combined in a unique and deeply complex melange. I really love it!
On the palate almost dry. The sweetness has blended in, the medium+ acidity is still perfectly integrated. Beautiful mineral notes, yellow stone fruit, some petrol, hints of peat and smoke. Long. We wondered and discussed, how this bottle will continue to age. Under perfect storage conditions, I would give it at least another decade… 92-93. My best bottle of the three that I bought.1 person found this helpful Comment -

March 29, 2019 - An evening with wine geeks (Ristorante da Salvo, Stuttgart): Glass: WMF white wine
Beautiful experience to taste the two Spätlesen side by side. Perfect bottle: Lable, fill level, cork! Color is amazingly youthful. Maybe like a 8-10 year old Riesling. Incredibly. Nose with some smokiness and peat. Interestingly way better than my first bottle. Balanced, lively and still kicking. Could stand its younger brother in any way. This bottle has even a future of further development of at least 5+ years. 89-90 -

March 1, 2019 - Glass: Zalto Universal
Perfect bottle: Lable, fill level, cork! Color is amazingly youthful. Maybe like a 8-10 year old Riesling. Incredibly. Unfortunately, this wine cannot disguise its problematic vintage! It has all the classic Zilliken Genes: Smoky, peaty notes, good acidity. But it is a bit unbalanced and rather thin on the late palate and not very long and complex. Still a wonderful experience for lovers of mature Riesling, but not an epiphany at all. Drink up, even this perfect bottle will not get any better! 86-88 -
