Community Tasting Notes 4

January 12, 2024 - Really pretty, fresh nose upon opening. Virtually no cork penetration, and just a bit of sediment in the bottle. Decanted about 60 minutes before sipping (that's a lie, of course I had a small splash immediately). Color is a solid purple-red. Nose is quite youthful, with notes of fresh and juicy red plums, fresh cut flowers, and bright red berries. Upon sipping, there are crunchy almost-ripe red fruits with just a whisper of tartness that contributes to the freshness of the wine. There is a little bit of mouth-drying tannin here too, but not so much that it distracts. Medium body, short-ish finish. Clearly still young, but at the price it is easy to justify drinking while the more expensive stuff sleeps a bit longer.

September 28, 2021 - Big rich bdx, but suspect reflexive of the vintage. Does has a bit of a roasted toasted element, ans my understanding is there no new oak here, no might be the heat of the vintage plum accessible palate, has some modern sleek leanings. Easy bdx to drink young—the ‘18 could use a few days to settle down.
On night 2 this was much sleeker with a lovely nose of violets and red fruits. Finish was rather short and clinched. I have to say the NM note is right on.

August 21, 2021 - La Tour de Bessan's 2018 is a blend of 60% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Petit Verdot. This particular bottle was Vinturi-decanted and serially sampled over the ensuing three hours. Requiring a minimum of 90 minutes in decanter, it ultimately unfurls a youthful aromatic profile of black currants, graphite, white flowers and dried herbs. Full-bodied, impressively fresh, judiciously oaked and without noticeable alcohol (listed as 14.5%), it delivers flavors that mirror the aromas, wrapping them with plentiful grippy tannins. The mid-palate is dense and the finish is long, albeit a bit coarse. Enjoy this young Margaux over its first 15 years of life, but give it a little up-front time in the cellar. Drink 2024-2033.

March 17, 2021 - Medium-bodied, bright, fresh, crisp, energetic red berries and flowers on those come through easily. On the palate, you find dusty textured, chewy red pit fruits that carry through to the finish in an early-drinking style. This is a nice value wine from the Margaux appellation.
