April 28, 2024 - Twenty Years On Wines, Some Luxury at Home; 4/19/2024-5/9/2024 (Alicante y Madrid - España): Gracefully aged in my parents cellar during ten years plus. Popped and poured? Well, cork splited in two pieces, last one totally pulverised so conveniently filtered and decanted. Beautiful, bright crimson colour with orange edges. What a nose. All what Rioja is about including flesh, iron ore, strawberries, leather, cinnamon, clove, biscuits or caramel even. Unbelievable complexity. Once again, coconut and dill missed in action. Similar echoes on the palate. Smooth texture, excellent acidity, very good length and a delicious aftertaste, very well defined. Supeb and full expressive for this particular vintage. Excellent. Deep. Recommended as postprandial wine even. According with this current score, may I insist that Rioja wine is not for everyone? I refer to the evidence ... Sorry. Reading latest news from Financial Times about the collapse of prices in Bordeaux I understand why.

December 31, 2021 - Magnum format, much better than the 2000 that I opened months prior. Reduced dark red and black fruits, very slightly leathery.

December 11, 2020 - Slightly senile damask purple red. Perfumed, some treacly sweetness. Tannins soften significantly in air; suitcase leather, dry rose petals, a complex wine. Great length with a heavy floral back scent.

November 19, 2020 - At $40 this is great QPR. Contrary to some of the other reviewers, I think this wine really benefits from a decant. I've had two bottles in the last month. The first, I put in a decanter to remove sediment and drank over the course of an hour. The last drop was the best... This time, I decanted for 90 minutes before drinking over 2-3 hours and the experience was much better.

Mature dark fruit flavors are subdued and fading, lots of spice, and a bit of tertiary flavor. Plenty of velvety tannin. Long dry, spicy finish.

With the fruit fading, I would drink in the next couple years or else wait 10+ years for tertiary flavors to become abundant.
