May 30, 2008 - Upon first pour, I noticed the infamous iridescent purple hue. The one that is synonymous with petite sirah. After studying the smell for 30-45 seconds I told myself this is going to be sweet. Now it is not sweet in a bad way. I mean it is not overpowering sweet. Just enough that will force people to use words like jammy or overripe. In my opinion, this is a decent blend but too over powering with the amount of petite sirah. While the majority of this wine is 40% zinfandel the 25% petite sirah shines through without prejudice. It is an enjoyable wine that will drink better with food as the "jammy" fruit feeling will relax with every bite of food you take.

    50, 5, 11, 14, 6 for an overall score of 86.

May 26, 2008 - Too sweet and jammy for me. I have trouble drinking this style anymore. I prefer the Clayhouse cuvee which is less intense and has some structure to it.

January 26, 2008 - Binny's winter warm up (Binny's Highland Park, highland park IL): nose: all candied cherry

taste: mostly cherry with a slight bit of dark fruit

overall: decent. very one dimensional, but it works I guess

January 14, 2008 - Decanted 40 minutes. Color: medium dark red Nose: red fruit and heavy alcohol Taste: cherry koolaid with a shot of alcohol, maybe a hint of spice, but it's lost in a heavy cherry soaked in alcohol finish. Not undrinkable, actually not bad with food, but when drinking after the meal alone it was too hot. Where's the tannin structure? Basically non-existant, if it wasn't just a few years old I'd say it was way past it's prime, which it may be.

Finished two nights later after being in fridge vaccusealed. Actually a bit better, some of the alcohol was gone, just not enough structure, but some nice sour cherry koolaid tonight. Minor up-grade to 80 points for night two.

December 22, 2007 - A little harsh upon opening... needed to breathe 30 minutes or so. Decanting would have been a good idea. After breathing, though, it turned out to be very tasty & smooth.
