• Jalisco Does not like this wine:

  March 29, 2024 - This was a gift from a friend based on name recognition and his preference for Zinfandel. I don’t share that preference, I’m afraid, and this was a pretty basic example of what that grape can produce. Dark jammy fruit, high alcohol, a tinge of sweetness from the grapes that likely dried a bit while others on the cluster ripened. A typical Zinfandel but not anything special that I’ll remember drinking a few months hence.

  January 12, 2024 - Trying the wine rating assistant - here goes nothing: The wine looks purple colored. The legs are fast. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like gooseberry, black currant (cassis), prune, honeydew, lead pencil and green olive. It tastes like raspberry, black currant (cassis), apricot, cherry, pomegranate, cedar and rose. The body is full. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has low acidity.
  
  My human notes: I really enjoyed this on first taste and by the time I was halfway done with my first glass, I was struggling to finish it due to how pungent and nectary it is. The wine seems like it was made in a lab; a lot is going on. Unlike Tom Wambsgans, I may prefer my wine more "agricultural".

  January 10, 2024 - PnP...first glass through aerator then chilled bottle.
  Dark ruby color (4) with dark fruit (blackberry & raspberry) on the nose. (12)
  Bold, but not too big - a little dry but fruit forward, sweet but not overly - well balanced with medium tannins full of vanilla and oak. (17)
  Nice smooth finish with well-balanced acidity and tannins. (8)
  Second glass was nicely chilled and cuts the initial dryness, opens with with more fruit (plum & blueberry), and the tannins are more prominent.
  Enjoyed with baked pasta al forno - great pairing.

  December 29, 2023 - Aerated and decanted. Ruby medium legs no sediment. Sweet at first but as it opened up the wine dried out. Needs to be decanted at least 30 if not 60 minutes before consumption. Black currant oak pepper blackberry dry soft tannic. Paired well with BBQ.
