March 16, 2024 - Reasonably fragrant nose on the way in, but zero length. I’m told this is what even great wines tasted like when you had a bad dose of Covid

    July 24, 2020 - 2/12, excellent cork.
Medium ruby/garnet, narrow pale garnet rim. Seems to be a touch of oxidation on the nose, plum, bilberry, meat, spice. Better on palate - medium bodied, plum, spice, fine tannins, fresh acidity, decent length, meaty notes. Slightly disappointing bottle

February 28, 2018 - 1/12. Good cork. Decanted 1/2 hr. Medium/deep garnet core, pale garnet rim. Dark fruited, meaty/beefy, smoke soil. Masculine. Medium bodied, dark, smoky meaty fruit, quite firm tannic backbone still, not overly generous at the moment but an attractive Gevrey with good clarity/purity of fruit and a good length if still slightly reined in finish. Excellent and should improve.

December 13, 2017 - Monthly Tasting Group HWS #124; Burgundy; Gevrey-Chambertin (By VD and @ VD): Beautiful and complex bouquet with autumn impressions, chocolate and lush cherries. On the palate cherries, earth, autumn forest, mushrooms, licorice, some oak, beautiful acidity and round, still slightly sticky tannin. Beautiful wine. 92 - 93

(Drouhin-Laroze Gevrey-Chambertin Au Closeau) Medium-plus cherry-red with plenty of purple at the rim. The nose doesn’t have too much depth, but the width is interesting with fresh, precise red cherry/berry notes and an edge of cream. Leave it a couple of hours and you end up with a more classic and forward earthy note edged with cream. Fresh and perfectly balanced with understated but relatively fine tannin. The tannin comes a little more to the fore with time. Not the concentration of many Gevrey 1ers from the vintage, indeed it just seems a little light until you get some 1er cru dimension in the mid-palate and length. Would be a real success in 2004, but in context it’s only quite good in 2005. At any rate it’s interesting, competent, clean and fresh with no overt oak character - it’s also very tasty. At the price I paid (almost 60 Sfr), it’s not exactly great value though.
