  Translucent rusty red color, and just an awesome nose of sweet red fruits (as mentioned above), and beautiful forest floor notes with a hint of mint and flowers that came out as the wine opened up. Absolutely none of the unappealing (to me anyway) mustiness that sometimes plagues older CA bottles (especially those that have not been stored well). Just brings a smile to my face to sit here and smell this wine.
  
  I couldn't wait to get the glass to my lips, and it was just as good as the nose promised. Medium bodied with a very nice mouthfeel, sweet cherries, tea leaves, earth, roses, and a bit of tar possibly. Everything is playing together in perfect harmony, with a nice finish and even some very slight tannins evident to round things out. It actually improved in the glass/bottle after a couple hours.
  
  Just an absolute pleasure, and exactly what you're hoping for when you pop an older bottle without a reference point, and literally zero expectations. Probably some sort of petite sirah mix from the 70's, but who knows, and who cares. A killer bottle of wine, and the epitome of why I like to take fliers on early California wines like this.
