March 22, 2024 - Fourth bottle from a half case purchased from the Dutch importer in 2020. Decanted for two hours. Marries an open aromatic profile on the nose to a firm structure on the palate with good density. Flavours of black cherries and warm spices are bullt on a fresh core of chalky minerality. Lovely intensity and tension, ditto persistence and length. Quite primary still, I will keep my remaining two bottles for a few years more.

November 1, 2023 - Rouget's Passetoutgrain reverses the rules of the regulations with a blend made up of 80% Pinot Noir and the remaining 20% Gamay. The grandson of the Master of Burgundy, Henri Jayer, demonstrates all his skill in this wine with earthy, almost gamey and fruity notes at the same time. The wine evolves in the glass, reaching its best balance after at least an hour.

December 29, 2022 - Third bottle from a half case purchased from the Dutch importer in 2020. I paid Euro 17.95 at the time, but in today's crazy market even this seems to have quadrupled in price. In spite of the hot vintage it's a fresh and vibrant wine, silky and seamless and juicy; in the very satisfying and nicely layered aromatic profile the Gamay has the upper hand at present, but the Pinot Noir provides backbone and weight and a hint of spice; tannins are mild, the balance is fine and length is good to very good. On its plateau of maturity, drink now - 2028.

October 25, 2022 - Appearance: Bright and clear, the wine is of deep ruby colour, with narrow purplish rim and legs.
Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of red fruit of raspberry, cherries and plum, floral notes of violet, sweet spice of allspice, pungent spice of liquorice, maturity notes of mushroom. The wine is developing.
Palate: Dry with medium acidity, the wine has medium (+) tannin of ripe and velvety texture, medium alcohol and medium (+) body, with medium (+) intensity flavours of red fruit of raspberry, cherries and plum, herbal notes of black tea, sweet spice of nutmeg. The wine has a medium finish.
Conclusion: Very good quality Bourgogne Passetoutgrain with an intense nose showing good complexity, with the nice and ripe red fruit characters supplemented with violet and spicy notes, as well as some development aromas. On the palate the wine has good structure, with fairly high tannin level but velvety on texture, nice concentration in flavours and a reasonable length on the finish. It is ready to drink now and can maintain for another 2-3 years.

March 18, 2022 - Bottle over lunch at Curate. Very nice and drinkable.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of floral violets, purple plum, raspberry, ripe berries, ripe red cherry. Youthful.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), soft medium tannins showing a little more structure with more air, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of ripe red cherries, fruity berries, juicy plum, fine spice lick, underlying stony minerals. Reasonable medium+ finish. Becomes blackberry juice on day 2 re-tasting in Grassl Cru.
Very good quality. For young drinking enjoyment.
