February 6, 2023 - Gunk. Hard to pour even through a filter. Used as cooking wine for braised beef cheeks (which were terrific). The wine was otherwise marginally drinkable, with typical black and green pepper notes, very dark fruits and decent acidity. Would have been an average wine 15 years ago.

May 1, 2013 - Brill brought this bottle to Sun Wah for Brad's surprise 30th.
Showed beautifully. Improved with some age. Any austerity or stiff tannins have resolved.
Dark fruit. Blackberries, smoke, camphor. Green pepper. Long finish.
Structured but balanced. Showing really well now. Surprisingly tasty from past experience. -

March 16, 2012 - Rustic, dirt, black fruit, and tobacco in the nose. In the mouth, quite tannic w more dust and some herb and a little black fruit. Good length.

October 30, 2011 - I don't hate CA Merlots but if I did this would be at the forefront. It embodies everything bad about CA Merlots.
1) heavy label from a prestigious vineyard: Three Palms
2) It carries a heavy price tag compared to other Merlots in the region.
3) It is utterly boring.
On the nose it has mellow red fruits and loads of oak with just a hint of dirt. In the mouth it's neither a big Merlot or lightweight Cab. Typical profile of bing cherries and raspberries with creamy vanilla, the problem is none of it stands out enough to wow anyone. Finishes smooth but kinda hollow. This is fine for $15 Merlot but for something in the $40-50 range it's very disappointing.
Remember you don't drink the label.
