September 13, 2023 - The theme this week seems to be retasting existing 2018s and giving them kudos and feeling bad about burning all of the previous bottles too early...

Case in point is this 2018 high elevation chardonnay alleged to be Pride mountain.

Had after 3 hour decant, swrved just above fridge temp, with broiled salmon, air fryer brussels (soaked in asian chili paste marinade) and stir fry veggie quinoa.

Previous bottle had a poor showing. This bottle by comparison has the same big oak presance, bit it was integrated and favorable. The honey lime and candied apple on the nose was pleasing. The viscoscity would lead you to believe its going to be thick and clammy on the finish, but then it ends clean and crisp with good acidity. The heavier mouthfeel adn mediim+ body was a good fit for the salmon.

14.1% is undercover. Probably too heavy for lighter fare, but I see this being good with chicken, pork and oilier fish. Note to self try this with Wiener schnitzel.

Pride web site shows their 2018 chardonnay with drinking window 2020-2024, I see this going longer. Kind of bummer I had 6 mediocre bottles before this one, but great showing on this bottle.

April 13, 2020 - translucent pale straw color, glints of green, watery rim; pineapple, pear, green apple, honeysuckle, little new oak; restrained, bright acidity and minerality balance the lovely fruit; medium body, medium acidity, 14.1% ABV; fermented in barrel, about 1/3 underwent malolactic fermentation, aged in 20% new French oak; $55
