May 14, 2022 - Some current red Burgundies (Chicago, IL): Served double blind. Juicy, sweet, and very large-scaled, this is definitely Côte de Nuits, and the weightiness has me thinking this is Gevrey. Clearly a 2018 from the ripeness of the fruit, but the rest of the wine does not feel overweight or clumsy in any way. A modest amount of oak frames this wine.

February 11, 2020 - Burgundy, Day 1 (Beaune, France): Barrel sample. This dials back the raw musculature of the Bourgogne and you get a little more refinement and earthiness. The nose shows less of the exuberant fruit and there are some more earthy elements here. The fruit profile here is still mostly black.
