March 2, 2024 - I've been through three bottles of this over the past 90 days (most recent last night).

This wine needs a bunch of air. I agree with the strange nose on open as well as the punchy acidity and tannins. After a couple of hours in the decanter / day 2 in the bottle, everything really comes together. The nose becomes lovely for one. The wine has a pleasing rusticity ... There are the typical blue fruits (I get boysenberry in particular) and some leafy / foresty influences and a bit of bitterness going into the finish. The wine also is a good complement to fatty food.

This for me is special in that it isn't easily categorical. I don't get Rhone or California or Australia. At c. $30 (Lastbottle), this is a killer value.

March 1, 2024 - I get this score is a little lower than average. I did a PnP and so haven't had much air to the wine. Loads of blueberry jam on the nose, and something savory - tomato leaf? Olives? Tobacco? Can't quite figure that out, but palate follows - super silky, grainy blueberry and black raspberry notes, finish is average. Really good - not sure it'll transcend much beyond that.

February 27, 2024 - Deep, dark and rich with fruit. Great value too! Note to self: you don't drink enough Syrah!!! Fix that!!! 92+

December 16, 2023 - An otherwise lovely Syrah with an unfortunate touch of bandaid brett. I picked up the brett right away on the nose, and when tasting, it had a bitter, medicinal note (think Cloraseptic). I've only had a few Big Basin wines (Syrah and Pinot) but don't remember encountering this with those. I have three more bottles of this, so we'll see how those go. I got them for a very good price, so perhaps this is why.
