September 22, 2013 - I agree with rxlaw. Not getting the furor around the Rockpile Zins from Seghesio. Seems like a disconnect from talented winemaker and reputable fruit source, to my palate.

November 25, 2012 - Wow, what a difference 1.5 years made on this wine. The oak has compeltely gone into the background and the fruit is coming out like gangbusters. The wine improves with every minute in the glass. It started out very fruit forward with powerful blackberry nose and palatel. After 1 hour it now is dominated by anise, licorise, and hints of menthol. The fruitiness has subsided, but the fruit is still coming through loud and clear. The nuance and balance of this wine is outstanding. This finish is long and satisfying. If you got any of this one left, now is the time to drink it up, but give it a chance to open/develop for an hour or 2. It just changed again with all the spiciness receding and cherries coming forth. Tally hoe!

April 15, 2012 - I don't understand the fascination with Rockpile zins. I have bought my last one. For the money there are plenty of great zins from Sonoma county. These always seen hot and unbalanced to me. Now that I aged one a few years I'm convinced even a few years of bottle age doesn't help. Some like this harsh appellation. Not me. But this is just my personal opinion and I know people that love these wines.

March 3, 2012 - The black raspberries have subsided and been replace by raisins over the past year. I think it was at its peak in the spring of 2011, and it seems to be going downhill - fast. (Past) time to drink up. My mostly negative opinion of Rockpile zins has belatedly been confirmed.

February 12, 2012 - Cork pulled 4hrs before pouring. Nose was hot and alcoholic with a whiff of pepper. Dark fruits, plush texture, too much oaky vanilla toast for balance. Tannins yet to integrate. Needs a few more years to come together.
