Community Tasting Notes 5

April 14, 2024 - "Pairs with Sadness" (Chicago, IL): I really wanted to like this more, but I just don't think this was showing particularly well today. It's kind of shut down, and never really opened up either. Kind of a burly red wine, and a little bit nondescript overall. No distinct notes of anything here -- just kind of an ordinary red wine, though on the darker, burlier side right now. Almost certainly more interesting with at least another decade.

February 2, 2024 - BYOB dinner and then some; 2/1/2024-2/2/2024 (Avalon, Amsterdam): [Tasted blind] Couldn’t pinpoint this. Didn’t show a lot of fruit, some coffee, earthiness. Acidity on the low side for my liking (medium-), medium tannins, medium+ finish. This missed some depth, bottle issue?

From 2,7 hectare vineyard, bottle 0329

January 16, 2023 - Drank at Rekondo Donostia San Sebastián
Roses and violets on the bouquet. It really improved with time and had some meatiness to the nose.
Good fruit on the palate. Nice acidity. Balanced.
I concur with previous note. Very elegant wine.
    Fine fine tannins.

November 14, 2021 - Distinctive for a rioja. Pepperiness dominates on the nose and palate. Hints of lavender. Dark fruit form a core but are indistinct relative to the other notes. Smooth mouthfeel, refined tannins. Purplish-red hue.
